Operating from Vienna since 2014, Winkelschleifer is a manifestation of the fusion between a fascination with timbrally and rhythmically unique textures and a willingness to embrace improvisation. Maurizio Massaro, the mastermind behind Winkelschleifer, follows the trailblazing path set by experimentalists of various schools, drawing inspiration from the likes of Sonic Youth and Throbbing Gristle. His musical exploration is guided by intuition, with the key elements being guitar and homemade electronics. The result is an endeavor to create emotional resonance through sound.
In 2021, Winkelschleifer unveiled his latest sonic creation, the parasitic, dark, and sludgy album titled "Tiramigiù". This auditory experience features a re-enactment of straight noise rock riffs enveloped within meandering and brooding clouds of sound. Notably, there are no vocals in this sonic odyssey - Winkelschleifer communicates through more abstract means, allowing the music to speak volumes.
