Operating from Vienna since 2014, Winkelschleifer is what comes out when you combine an interest in timbrally and rhythmically unique textures with an openness to embrace improvisation, and, yes, instrumental chaos.

When sounds are explored, intution leads the way. Since guitar and electronics, some of which are home-made, are key elements, Maurizio Massaro follows trails blazed by experimentalists of different schools, such as Sonic Youth and Throbbing Gristle, always striving to create emotional resonance.

In 2021, Winkelschleifer (which, by the way, means angle grinder in German) released his latest, parasitic, dark and sludgy album Tiramigiù that contains re-enactment of straight noise rock riffs within all meandering and brooding clouds of sound. There are no vocals, why would there be? Everything needs to be said through more abstract means that.

For fans of Post-Rock or (nerdy shit like) Wolf Eyes, Xiu Xiu, Ramleh, Dean Blunt
